MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about Mainstage productions for the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 29 – August 3, 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC.

Below is information regarding the submission guidelines for the Mainstage. Please be aware of all deadline dates as they differ for each component.

ALL PLAYS SUBMITTED FOR MAINSTAGE PRODUCTION MUST BE IN PREVIEWS OR OFFICIALLY OPEN ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 31, 2018.

In order for NBTF to notify you promptly, each submission package must include the following:

A formal letter of introduction clearly stating the following:

  • Company’s name, address, city, state, zip code, office numbers (phone/fax), website
  • Producer’s name, address, city, state, zip code, phone numbers (home, office, cell), e-mail
  • Writer’s name, address, city, state, zip code, phone numbers (home, office, cell), e-mail
  • Director’s name, address, city, state, zip code, phone numbers (home, office, cell), e-mail
  • Play synopsis
  • Works-in-progress or projects that have not been fully mounted before an audience will not be accepted
  • Printed reviews of play. Identify the publication(s). Send copies only.
  • Identify celebrity performer, if applicable
  • $35.00 submission fee to cover administrative expenses

LARRY LEON HAMLIN SOLO PERFORMANCE SERIES (LLHSPS)

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about the Larry Leon Hamlin Solo Performance Series (LLHSPS), a component of the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 29 – August 3, 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC.

The Larry Leon Hamlin Solo Performance Series (LLHSPS), dedicated and named in honor of the NBTF founder, focuses exclusively on historical biographies. The objective of the series is to provide a medium for professional artists to expose their work to presenters and sponsors seeking entertainment for their schools, institutions, and organizations. The series serves as an educational tool by bringing to life, through theatre, the biographies of known and unknown African Americans.

Below is information regarding the submission guidelines for the Larry Leon Hamlin Solo Performance Series. Please be aware of all deadline dates as they differ for each component.

NBTF FRINGE

Thank you for inquiring about the NBTF Fringe, a component of the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 29 – August 3, 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC.

The NBTF spotlight shines bright on the most professional collegiate theatre productions from around the world. NBTF Fringe is primarily a performance showcase for college and university students. It affords theatre companies and theatrical student organizations affiliated with accredited junior or senior colleges in the United States and in other countries an opportunity to perform one-act or full-length productions of new and contemporary works as well as productions of Black classics.

Below is information regarding the submission guidelines for the NBTF Fringe. Please be aware of all deadline dates as they differ for each component.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: March 15, 2019

GARLAND LEE THOMPSON, SR. READERS’ THEATRE OF NEW WORKS

The Readers Theatre of New Works will accept typed scripts, NO LONGER THAN 100 PAGES (not including title page or character lists) that adheres to industry standard “Modern Stage Play” format. Download a pdf file with three examples of acceptable script formatting HERE*. (*make this a link to the downloadable pdf).

Please note:

  • Plays longer than 100 pages will NOT be accepted or considered for the series.
  • Playwrights are not allowed to direct or read in their own play’s reading under any circumstances. No exceptions will be allowed.
  • The series will not accept musicals or solo shows written by and for the playwright to perform in themselves.

For your play to be considered, submit the following electronically to the Frank Silvera Writer’s Workshop:

  • Formal letter of introduction/please include writer’s name, address, city, state, zip, phone numbers (home/office/or cell) and email address
  • Brief synopsis of play with a character list
  • Script in professional format

Submission fee of $35.00 is required to cover administrative expenses.

NBTF FILM FEST

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about the NBTF Film Fest, a component of the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 29 – August 3, 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC.

This event recognizes independent filmmakers for their enormous contributions to the industry. African Americans have long made a profound change in the landscape of cinematic expression. Many of these changes are due to the hard work and dedication of African American artists behind the camera.

Below is information on how to submit materials for the NBTF Film Fest. Please be aware of all deadline dates because they differ for each component.

In order for NBTF to notify you promptly, each submission package must include the following:

A formal letter of introduction clearly stating the following:

  • Name of presenter, address, city, state, zip code, office numbers (phone/fax), and e-mail
  • A DVD of the complete film short (30 minutes or less) submitted to NBTF office
  • Film synopsis and exact length of film
  • URL to film trailer
  • Printed reviews of film. Identify the publication (s). Send copies only.
  • Highlight of celebrity performers
  • $35.00 submission fee to cover administrative expenses

If your film is selected, be prepared to make available a DCP, Digital Cinema Package, that can be downloaded for public airing in a theatre.

NBTF WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS

Dear Artists:

Thank you for inquiring about the Workshops & Seminars, a component of the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 29 – August 3, 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC. An array of workshops and seminars are conducted by theatre professionals, scholars and celebrities during Festival week. These events are free and open to the public of all ages, thus workshop presenters are not paid.

Below is information regarding the submission guidelines for the workshops and seminars. Please be aware of all deadline dates as they differ for each component.

In order for NBTF to notify you promptly, each submission package must include the following:

A formal letter of introduction clearly stating the following:

  • Name of presenter, address, city, state, zip code, cell/home numbers, and e-mail
  • Synopsis of workshop/seminar and objective
  • Physical space need
  • Supporting materials (books, articles, pamphlets etc.)

Below is information regarding the submission guidelines for the National Youth Talent Showcase. Please be aware of all deadline dates as they differ for each component.

  • Tape/DVD for viewing

INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM

Thank you for inquiring about the International Colloquium, a component of the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) to be held July 29 – August 3, 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC. The International Colloquium is a collaborative effort between the National Black Theatre Festival, Winston-Salem State University and the Black Theatre Network.
