“Live theatre reminds us that there were words we spoke before we could write them as concepts.  We need always to take he word off the page.  We who are poets have a sacred duty.  We take civilization for granted. Words carry our heritage, and language is the key to civilization. The stage – live theatre – preserves a rich heritage.  The 1991 National Black Theatre Festival celebrates that heritage.”
