Just Me
Written and Performed by Perri Gaffney
Directed by Dwight L. Smith
Master story teller Perri Gaffney, in the combined oral traditions of American folk tales and West African history-keeping griots, shares a collection of true stories about love, loss, longing, and learning while coming-of-age in Black America during the 1950’s-70’s: Finding and losing great love; the birth of arrogance and attitude; being branded an N-word outcast; discovering power in profanity; and receiving salvation; and pursuing a career in performance are some of the topics explored in this non-stop comedy that enlightens as it entertains and inspires others to explore the greatness taken for granted in their own personal histories and life lessons.
*Presented through IBTF’s Larry Leon Hamlin Solo Performance Series, this performance showcases the work of solo theatre artists. The event is a double bill with In The Black, and each ticket includes admission to two solo performances.
